Hydraulic Cylinders and Rams Concisely Explained

Hydraulic cylinders and rams play an important role in modern engineering, and are utilised in a wide range of areas. Here are some concise pieces of information about the functionalities of  both these crucial parts of hydro-based solutions-

Hydraulics cylinder

These devices are also known as linear motors, and perform the job of creating unidirectional energy via a unidirectional stroke. Being a mechanical actuator, these apparatuses are made of mainly a base, head, barrel, piston rod, seal gland and seals. They have a piston which is connected with a rod and parked inside the body of the barrel. All the power created by these devices is obtained from highly pressurized fluid, which is mostly the oil.

Application of Cylinders

These cylinders find their applications in a large number of areas like-

Manufacturing industry
Industrial machinery set-ups
Civil engineering &
Construction equipments.

Hydraulic Rams

Obtaining power from hydro-based sources, the rams are actually a cyclic water pump. The primary job of it in a hydraulic solution is to output liquid at a higher-mounted head. It is made up of 2 actuating parts - namely,  the delivery check valve and spring loaded waste valve. It contains 2 pipes also, namely the drive pipe that manages the liquid supply from a lifted source, and a delivery pipe that carries some certain amount of fluid coming through the drive pipe to an elevated level than the original.

These devices find their applications in areas where there is always a constant need for pumping water to the destinations which are located at heights.
